Skateboarding is one of the most popular sports in the modern day, especially in the younger generations. There are around 12 million skateboarders in the world. I'm not going to bore you with the history, it's time to get started with skateboarding tricks for beginners.
First things first, you're going to need a board. So visit your local skate shop and ask around. Ask other how good their board, trucks, wheels and grip are. Use whatever feedback you get and buy a board which fits your budget and is quality at the same time. Don't go completly cheaping out, because you will only ending up having to buy new gear sooner.
Then there's the safety stuff. Unfortunately. most people don't even bother because they think it looks cooler or are just too worried what other people are going to think. Nothing's going to take you off your board faster then a broken wrist. Or skull for that matter.
The typical safety gear includes:
- Helmets
- Elbox Pads
- Knee Pads
- Ankle Braces
- Wrist Guards
- Gloves
I'm not saying you should go out and buy all of this, but at least be a little bit sensibile, especially while you are a total beginner. You don't want to get turned off the sport so early because of a few easily prevented injuries.
Ok, so you have your board. Next on the list is getting comfortable on your board. Find a nice flat, hard, level surface and ride around on it. If you are right handed chances are you should use natural stance, which is left foot forward. If this feel uncomfortable switch to goofy - obviously right foot forward.
Put your front foot just behind the front trucks at an angle, and your back foot on the tail. Push along the ground with your back foot and keep your knees slightly bent. Balance yourself and lean to steer. That's all their is to it.
Once your comfortable you can move on to tricks. You're obviously going to want to start with the skateboarding tricks for beginners as any others will be out of your league.
Here's a short list of tricks. Check out videos of them on the internet or in DVD form to figure out the technique:
